About Downtown San Jose

Downtown San Jose is the core of San Jose, California, being not only the geographic center of this American city but also the central business district. DSJH invites you to find out more about it, so keep on reading. The history of the foundation of San Jose reveals that this is actually California’s first city and the location of the California’s first state capitol.

The town was first settled in 1777, while the area that is today Downtown San Jose was settled about 20 years later when it moved inland from its original location. It was only in 1850 that San Jose finally settled into what it is today. Downtown San Jose passed through different stages of development from an area of a typical small, agriculture-based city, to the city that it is today thanks to the initiative of Mayor Tom McEnery in the 1850s to start the gentrification of the area.

As such, DSJH invites you for some sightseeing in order to discover and experience the result of many years of hard work that lead Downtown San Jose to the current result. The main areas of interest in Downtown San Jose are the Business District and the Residential District. DSJH guarantees there are plenty of things to see in both of these districts because they tend to exceed their specificity, thus surprising you in many ways. For instance, the Business District is home to some of the city’s landmarks that you will find enlisted in the section of our website dedicated to these attractions.

The residential area of the city contains several neighborhoods where the population and the ethnic minorities have hallmarked the area with their own background. All of these are just hints to help you decide to plan your next trip to Downtown San Jose, while DSJH will be your faithful guide and host in order for you to have a great time.
